Representative Stark Introduces AmeriCare Health Care Act of 2009

On January 6, 2009, Representative Pete Stark reintroduced the AmeriCare Health Care Act of 2009 (H.R.193).  If enacted, H.R.193 would create a new title in the Social Security Act (entitled "AmeriCare") and provide universal health care for all U.S. residents.  As reflected in Rep. Stark's Press Release and Introduction Statement, AmeriCare is modeled on a revised Medicare program (in which adults would receive Medicare Part A and B benefits among other benefits) and would use the Medicare program's administrative infrastructure. However, H.R.193 would also maintain employer sponsored health care coverage.
